The Most Awesome Parent is a UK based charity dedicated to supporting
LGBTQ+ individuals facing financial precarity, fostering stability and dignity.
The Most Awesome Parent is about being there to provide both money and moral support for anyone identifying under the LGBTQ+ umbrella when they don't have the family connections who are able to provide them support.
We support with small grants to individuals facing financial precarity, fostering stability and dignity.
Because you can't write that ACE funding application, apply for that job, or run that surgery fundraiser if you can't cover your bills and eat at the same time.
The Most Awesome Parent wants you to succeed in what you do!
Are you a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
Are you in financial precarity? Is there more month than money?
Are you based in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)?
If YES to all of these - then you do!
People often live hand to mouth and when things go wrong we sometimes need help when there's too much month and not enough money.
For many LGBTQ+ people, families often don't have the spare cash to provide the support to cover a bad month, an unexpected bill, or help out when an invoice hasn't been paid.
If this sounds like it fits - then you are welcome to apply for a grant.
Do you identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual/Pansexual, Trans, Gender Diverse, Queer, Ace/Asexual or any other identitiy other than "Cis and Straight"
If this sounds like a fit - then you are under the LGBTQ+ umberella.
We have a form below - if that will not be accessible you can leave a voice or video message on our WhatsApp
We look at the incoming requests, and prioritise them against the money we have to grant.
You can expect to hear within a day of making the request.
We are a small charity. We will look at your request and what support we can offer.
If you are new to us we might begin with a smaller amount (enough to cover a couple of weeks of food shopping). We will always look at the best way we can support you.
We are a small charity. Occasionally we find ourselves with all of our income assigned and granted, and we need to pause applications.
There is a list to sign up to which we will email when funds are available for more applications.
If you have requests for assistance which are not money based, let us know on the form and we will consider the application.
We are also able to give you that moral support that we all want from our parents.
Things like:
Unconditional positive regard - we believe you can do it - especially making those hard phone calls and sending scary emails
CV reviews - we can review your CV for a number of industries, including technology, arts, and academia
Let us know what you need and we will see what we can do to help
Because of our day jobs we have all been DBS checked. At least one of the trustees has had Mental Health First Aid training.
We have connections with charities that support:
LGBTQ+ people with mental health
People who are homeless or in perilous housing situations
Migration and Asylum charity
We will discuss with you if we think a connection to one of these would also be helpful
We currently cannot support anyone under 18 years old.
Any identifying information you provide is held securely and will be destroyed after 3 years.
We will report aggregated information in any publications from the charity, ensuring groupings are large enough to avoid identification of individuals.
We are a small charity just setting up. While we are working towards getting registered as a Charity we are having to limit our support to people based in the UK only. We can only give grants to individuals with a UK Bank Account.
We don't have the resources to work internationally currently, and while that is on the long plan, it is not possible at the moment to support people outside of the UK.
